hi hi hi sisters ♡
I finished my finals on thursday and now I am officially half way done with law school !!! its a very nice feeling. i’m not going to lie, I didnt feel that much relief when I finished my finals, however, I am feeling more relaxed. I still have a lot to do over break, lots of internship applications to do, but it will be nice to not be in school.
we hosted a christmas cookie and cocktail party last night at our apartment and it was so lovely. people brought cookies to share and we made drinks for everyone. I made the NYT Chocolate Chunk Shortbread cookies, and they were so yummy. they kinda fell apart when I cut them but they are very forgiving and I was able to just smoosh them back together. I also made some christmas crack and that was a hit, everyone loves butter sugar and chocolate. we also made a DELICIOUS mocktail drink that everyone loved. it was a cranberry ginger drink and I would highly recommend making it. we used ginger brew instead of ginger beer because that is what trader joes had, and then we added some tonic water to cut the tartness and dilute it a little. highly recommend.
movies: a week of lots of movies!!
I saw saltburn on tuesday. I really enjoyed it. the cinematography was gorgeous and the set was stunning. the movie is interesting and there are some disturbing moments but I really enjoyed it overall. we watched willy wonka and the chocolate factory and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I grew up on the gene wilder version of wonka, I also watched the johnny depp version, but gene wilder is the one that is near and dear to my heart. I love the colors and the acting and the one line zingers and it is so nostalgic to me. that being said, we also saw wonka and it was PHENOMENAL. I recommend it to everyone. like please go watch it, i’m begging everyone. I saw poor things, and it was very interesting. the costumes and set design were truly so gorgeous and i’ll be thinking about them for a long time. emma stone put everything into that role. bjørn and I watched whisper of the heart, it was a very sweet ghibli movie. i’m slowly my way through them and this was delightful. and lastly, I watched spirited with miranda on sunday while we prepped for the party. i’ll probably never watch it again, but i’m glad I could check it off.
in my mind: I really enjoyed looking through Forbes 30 Under 30, and i’m loving some of the musicians featured, but I want to gate keep them forever and ever, especially Lizzy McAlpine. but its very cool to look through and see what changes people in the world are making at such young ages. it is very admirable and inspirational.
in my stomach: hand pulled noodles from a place in harlem, it was soooo yummy
I dragged (not really they all wanted to go) my friends with me to see Wonka this week and it was so delightful. it was directed by the same director that made the paddington movies, and while all three of these movies are directed towards children, I think more adults need to watch these movies. paddington and paddington 2 are some of the most wholesome movies ever and Wonka is no different. watching wonka in theaters felt so childlike. I was full of awe and delight and the whole time was joyous. paul king, the director, understands whimsy so well and is able to emulate that in his films for everyone. sometimes I get embarrassed for my love of “children’s” movies, I see just about every disney movie that comes out and I love animated films and I am moved and touched by movies that are targeted towards children. however, on the other hand, some of my favorite movies are “deeper” movies. so I guess its okay to be drawn to kids movies and enjoy them deeply. it doesn’t mean I don’t have the capacity to understand and appreciate deeper pieces of media, I think it means that I just have the capacity to appreciate media that might not be directed towards me but I also have the ability to make those movies meaningful to me as well. I dont know if this makes any sense, but maybe because ever since I was a kid, my cousins would tease me for loving disney movies, and I guess part of that has never left me. Wonka is amazing, it left all of us in tears, and I can’t wait to see it again. the nods and odes to the gene wilder version made me very emotional and Timmy was perfect. you could HEAR his smile in every word and song. I cannot wait to show this to my children and then tell them that I’ve seen Wonka in real life ;)
also I made a tiktok of some unhinged reviews of wonka and it has gotten over 1 Million views, im just as shocked as you are
tiktok: quilted village; i’m screaming; this will be me
pinterest: I violently feel this way
instagram: lovely chelsey; women supporting women; MY wonka from here on out
if anyone is wanting to watch some unconventional christmas-esque movies this week, I want to recommend a few. the first is a little documentary on disney plus called “Christmas with Walt Disney” going through the different films that Walt Disney made that have christmas scenes in them and the inspiration behind them. the next is called a Smoky Mountain Christmas with Dolly Parton, you can watch the full movie on youtube. and then the last one is the Small One, also on disney plus. its so sweet and beautiful and makes me very emotional.
hope you have a great week lovely cutie pies!!
xoxo,
