hi hi hi sisters ♡
welcome back to a new week! if you are new, i’m so happy to have you, you can look at old newsletters by clicking here for the archive ◡̈
wowie what a week, you know those weeks that feel like a lifetime? this was one of those weeks for some reason. february is flying by, I know its not even half way through the month yet, but its almost half way through the month and that is hard to comprehend haha
dae’s new dry shampoo. its something that has been in the work for quite literally years and i’ve been anxiously anticipating its release. once upon a time I was watching Amber Fillerup (the founder of Dae) share on a Q+A or a live or a tiktok or something that they were working on a powder dry shampoo but they really wanted to perfect the spray nozzle, which was my biggest gripe with the trader joe’s dry shampoo (which is honestly fantastic for a cheaper version, but the nozzle can get jammed) anyways, dae released theirs this week, and while ive only used it a couple of days I reallyyyyy like it. I can’t really use powder dry shampoo for my bangs because they are wild, but for the rest of my hair its been so great! I feel like I dont have to use that much, it disappears so quickly in my hair, and it smells so nice. also the little commercial amber made for the release was DARLING
movies: im back baby!! bjørn and I watched quite a few movies together this week. the first was anatomy of a fall, I really enjoyed it! it felt a little long, but also I was sleepy, but it was very engaging the whole time, he said it was his favorite of the best picture nominees (which is surprising because he lovedddd oppenheimer 🧐). then we watched moonstruck, it features cher and baby nicholas cage, and it was cute, felt similar to my big fat greek wedding in some ways. watched be my valentine, charlie brown, hehe I love these little shorts, and I had never seen this one before. I saw the fellowship of the ring for the very first time (I KNOW IM 20 YEARS LATE) but wowie it was so good. incrediblyyyyyyy long, we had to take two breaks for my sanity, but I really really enjoyed it. those hobbits are so cute, I love them. I went and saw lisa frankenstein by myself friday night and really enjoyed it! its so campy and silly and gives off tim burton vibes. when I went to the drew barrymore show a week or so ago with friends, the cast of lisa frankenstein were the guests and it was fun seeing the film after watching them. the writer also wrote juno and jennifer’s body and the director is the daughter of robin williams. I watched the last half of black swan with miranda, I never need to see it again, I am so spooked. saturday I went to the movies again by myself and watched a movie called scrambed, its based on this woman’s true story of freezing her eggs because her biological clock is a ticking. it was incredibly cheesy and honestly I was bored, but there were a couple of parts I appreciated, like her friends coming together to celebrate her. I think its important to celebrate everyone’s achievements, especially when they don’t look like the traditional achievements we typically celebrate. while making valentines for our galentines party I watched valentines day, I know this movie is SO CHEESY, but it is also so fun and comforting. and lastly, for movie church we watched remember the titans, and once again i was 20 years late to the game and it was my first time watching it. I really really really liked it. it is the disneyification of solving racism, but I love an inspirational sports movie, so I loved it, and I cried a lot haha, whats new?
podcasts: this episode is from 3 years ago, but I loved this interview with rachel sennott and molly gordon on las culturistas
music: BIG WEEK FOR MUSIC!! kacey musgraves dropped the most beautiful single, “deeper well”, the lyrics are stunning and very relatable right now. I cant wait for the rest of the album. noah kahan dropped his extended edition of his album with all of collabs on songs he did. every single one of them is perfect, I also love his new song "forever”. also beyonce dropped some country singles, and her vocals are amazing.
in my mind: looking forward to this exhibit that will be at the brooklyn museum. the exhibit will feature paul mccartney’s personal photography collection from his time in the beatles
in my stomach: the yummiest sugar cookies that also gave me an anxiety attack because they were a pain in the ass to make, but through trial and error we figured it out!! I added this buttercream frosting on top (I did half the recipe because it made a ton) and it was soooo good
sometimes I hate that I named this section “adulting” because its so millennial but alas, I dont know what else the A can stand for with an ‘ing’ at the end hahah, if anyone has any ideas pls lmk ♡
anyways, I wanted to chat about valentine’s day. I have LOVED valentines day for as long as i can remember. in the 5th grade my teacher had the girls plan the class halloween party and the boys plan the class valentines day party. i think he wanted to go beyond the stereotypes but i’m not 100% sure; and the boys literally SLAYED that party. granted their mothers helped them out a ton, but it was head to two pink and red and hearts. then my 10th grade english teacher had a valentines day countdown from the first day of school, even though she had gone through a divorce and was single. she loved celebrating valentines day!
these moments have stayed with me and i think have added to my love for this holiday. i know valentines day can be silly and commercial and may feel like it is not intentional; why do we need a day to show off our love, shouldn’t that be every day?? i also think its really easy to hate this holiday, especially if you are single. but I think that narrative is changing with the rise and normalcy of galentines parties. thank you leslie knope ♡ however, with that comes the bashing of men; “fries before guys” or “ovaries before brovaries” are signs you can buy…. and to that my friend mentioned, why are men even being brought into the narrative of galentines? its all about celebrating your female friendships (or palentines and you can and should celebrate the love for everyone!!!)
since I lived 26 years of my life as a single lady, i have grown a huge love and respect for the importance of platonic love and relationships. I feel like I could write a thesis on how critical platonic love and relationships are in our lives. literally relationships keep us alive and living longer !!! I love that valentine’s day is an extra opportunity to celebrate those we love in our life and the relationships we choose to cherish. and while i’m currently in a loving relationship that has changed my life, I still want to celebrate valentine’s day with everyone
“nearly everything I know about love, I've learnt from my long-term friendships with women”
everything I know about love by dolly alderton is one of my all time favorite books and she really emphasizes the importance of female friendships. highly recommend ◡̈

some things I’m looking forward to this week: the new season of Abbott Elementary has started and I cant wait to start watching it! also there is a cutie new little show called Welcome Home Franklin that is a spinoff of the Peanuts characters all focused on Franklin
