#23: I yelled at a man on the street this weekend
I also saw timmy in the flesh and man oh man he is so cute
helloooooo everyone and happy monday !! I hope you all had a great weekend and enjoyed yourselves, got some chores done, and caught up on sleep
sorry for the clickbait title, I didn’t know what else to name this week’s substack haha. you can actually watch a little tiktok of me sharing the experience because I dont feel like writing it out right now.
I did go to the dune 2 red carpet on sunday and I saw the cast of dune 2, including florence pugh, zendaya, austin butler, and ofc timmy ♡ god bless bjørn and his patience to tough out the cold with me just so I could see some celebrities. I bought him canes for dinner to express my appreciation
alyssa and I have been watching schitts creek and I am really enjoying it. I started it a few years ago and I couldnt get past episode 2. I found the characters to be SO annoying and unlikeable, but this time around I am loving them. they are so extreme and campy and extra and I think it is so funny. so I am recommending that this week. you can watch it on hulu!
movies: perfect days is one of the sweetest movies i’ve ever seen. it’s about a man in tokyo that cleans toilets, it almost feels like a documentary because it follows the man from the moment he wakes up until the moment he goes to sleep. highly recommend. it’s nominated for best international picture. les miserables was back in theater for a dolby cinema release and holy shit, I think it’s one of the greatest musicals ever made. the story, the redemptive arch’s, the songs… I sob. alyssa and I went to see drive away dolls. I don’t even know how to describe this movie besides saying that it feels to me like a movie has been made from a fever dream. it’s funny. it’s queer. it’s less than 90 minutes. big fan. and lastly I watched o brother where art thou with bjørn. I haven’t seen it in ages and it was a great time.
podcasts: this interview with renee rapp is HILARIOUS. she is so authentic to herself and I love that so much. its from a year ago with las culturistas. I also really enjoyed this episode of the emma chamberlain podcast. its about stress and how we can better manage it. I will be going back to listen again.
music: no music, but seeing olivia rodrigo’s tour pics is getting me soooo excited to see her in july 💜
in my mind: I really like reading the NYT’s modern love stories and i’m currently writing an op-ed in one of my classes and I want to talk about LGBTQ+ individuals in the realms of religion and upon researching for it I found two modern love stories that I really liked. this first one hit really close to home, especially as someone, like myself, who has gone through a faith transition. and then this one is about two gay elders, also so sweet.
in my stomach: I made these banana muffins last night and they are so tasty! they came together very easily and turned out great. the recipe makes exactly 12 muffins.
with it being black history month this month, I have been trying to actively consume information material and media and stories from black creators. maybe its because I am no longer in primary or secondary school, but I feel like I haven’t seen much about black history month this past month and I have had to be more active with my consumption. which is not a bad thing at all. we should all strive to be actively engaged in informing ourselves rather than simply accepting the passiveness of information given by others. alyssa shared with me and some of our friends a crash course youtube video about the contribution of black artists to history and culture. a podcast that I really want to listen to is called holy week. it is the story of MLK’s assassination. there is also a podcast called louder than a riot that shares how black and queer people have impacted hip-hop and how they have dealt with oppression in the music industry.
while i’m not currently reading any books that would fall under the umbrella of sharing black stories, I have read a few and some of my favorite books are from this genre. the first is born a crime by trevor noah, it is his story of growing up in apartheid south africa as someone who is a mixed race. I also love becoming by michelle obama. it is so insightful and interesting reading about her life before obama became president and then her time in office making an influence on the country. I listened to the audiobook and loved it, she narrates it herself. and then lastly, just mercy by bryan stevenson is a book that has influenced me more than almost any other book. it is truly the most inspiring story and I think that bryan stevenson is one of the greatest humans to be on this earth. he is my hero.
I would love to read go telI it on a mountain, if beale street could talk (LOVE that movie), I know why the caged bird sings, and the color purple - which I will be reading this year in a little book club I have with friends.
if anyone has any recommendations for books or movies or podcasts from black creators or sharing the black experience, I would love to hear about them!
pinterest: I want this to be me; all the women in me are tired; trying to be inspired by hair ideas for when my hair doesnt want to cooperate with being wavy
youtube: a kitten interview with florence pugh and austin butler; little disney short in nyc; zendaya’s puppy interview, she is gorgeous and honestly its so crazy for me to think about her beginning of stardom was through disney channel

i’m off to an opera tonight and I am praying I can stay awake. I am perpetually plagued with sleepiness, so i’m hoping I can last the 4 hour long performance without snoozing away. wish me luck and have a great week!
xoxo,
your big sis, kaitlynn
