hi hi hi sisters ♡
pardon the language in the title, but I need to use extra manifestation powers as I have a big ethics test on Wednesday that I’m stressed about. so every time I start to doubt myself, I write that on a piece of paper, so i’ll have a notebook full of just this sentence
in case you didnt know, you can write reviews for items purchased from madewell on their website and for every review you write you get 10 points added to your account. once you get 100 points you get a $10 credit from madewell!! this might be silly but its nice to get extra points for practically free.
movies: we’re back baby. starting off strong, bjørn and I watched a movie called arrival. its with amy adams and jeremy renner and its directed by denis villenueve. it came out in 2016 so it wasnt quite on my radar because of my post mission. but its SO good. its sci-fi but like also has such a beautiful story to it. highly recommend. then I went and saw love lies bleeding, its a new movie with kristen stewart and she was amazing in it. the movie wasnt my cup of tea but like I dont regret going. bjørn and I also got 2/3 of the way through the final lord of the rings movie, but I got too sleepy to finish it…. for movie church we watched I, tonya and holy cow margot robbie is phenomenal!!
podcasts/music: havent consumed that many podcasts or music this week, on my commutes to and from school ive been studying on the subway… and if i’ve listened to music at home, its been a score or an instrumental playlist while studying and writing papers
in my mind: this is too important to be put with the other tiktoks. I saw this video a couple of days ago and I have not stopped thinking about it. you MUST watch until the very end because its horrifying that children have to think about the things that they do. children need to be protected and we have to do something about gun reform.
in honor of women’s history month this month, I wanted to share some of my favorite movies and books written by and are about women. I have a couple of different lists of movies on my letterboxd.
this one is movies about girls giving off the same crazy energy in the best way possible (examples: bottoms, heathers, booksmart, jennifers body, lisa frankenstein)
this one is movies about girlhood, or coming of age movies where the main character is a girl not a boy (examples: because of winn dixie, the quiet girl, are you there god its me margaret, parent trap, inside out)
this one is just about women and what its like to be a woman and how lovely it is to be a woman (examples: lady bird, mamma mia 2, barbie, on the basis of sex, juno, uptown girls, easy A)
if you have more suggestions for these lists please let me know, i’d love to keep adding!!
as far as my favorite books and movies go, i first and foremost have to mention little women; the 2019 movie and the book. the book is DENSE and long but it is truly so so so beautiful, im re-reading it right now after having to have put it away for a couple of months. louisa may alcott is a phenomenal writer and then greta gerwig is able to make a movie rendition that is even better than the original movie AND book. she truly knows how to encapsulate what it feels like to be a girl. LOVE. if you havent seen it or read it or both, stop what you are doing right now and repent!!
suffragette, promising young women, she said, and women talking are four pretty hard movies to watch, but holy shit, they are phenomenal and will make you feel so empowered and also incredibly pissed off at the world we live in (I also just realized that three of these movies have carey mulligan as the main actress, I didnt do that on purpose, but I think that shows how powerful of an actress she is and her ability to portray the hardships of being a woman)
I will go to war for dolly alderton. she is my favorite female author, primarily because of her book everything I know about love. like its my bible. I just finished her newest book, good material, and I also loved it! I would really like to read something by toni morrison and maya angelou, I am going to make it a priority to do so soon! I also have loved the memoirs beautiful country, crying in h-mart, and the glass castle. all written by women sharing their experiences living in America in either poverty or as an immigrant family, so good. I also have the bell jar and a tree grows in brooklyn on my list to read from more female authors.
once again if you have any book suggestions please let me know!!
lastly, just want to share a couple of videos ive seen this past week about sharing the woman experience. fist, this re-written speech from the barbie movie incorporating issues and stats that women face in the real world is powerful, and also devastating. this youtube video, WOOF, but so good. and then this youtube video, truly encapsulates what it feels like to be a woman today.
tiktok: WHY was this scene taken out of the parent trap?!?!; I love hearing about good men and how they are obsessed with their girlfriends
pinterest: the cutest match holder; hehe I need; any crying club, i’m in
instagram: soooo cool; this video cracked me up; gorgeous, I need
