#45: what made you cry this week?
on my list includes the olympics, twisters, and a photo exhibit
hi hi hi sisters ♡ I hope you all had a wonderful wee, part of me feels like the past week flew bye, but at the same time thursday seems like forever ago! time is so funny like that and with that in mind, I cannot believe that august is only a couple of days away, this summer is practically gone!!
this weekend I was able to go to the brooklyn museum and see the paul mccartney photo exhibit. in 1963 and 1964, paul mccartney had a personal camera and took photos of the beatles and their first visit to the united states. it was so cute and special to see these photographs that have been in archives for so long. I love the beatles and I loved these photos, specifically this one:
for the next little bit I want to keep the recommendations section to recommendations for different substacks that I read. I find it to be really important to support small “businesses” (that sounds odd to use here, but maybe influencers is another word I can use?) and one way I can do that is by sharing about them!
this week I want to share the subtack written by
. her substack is called and each week she writes about pop culture and challenges pertaining to body image, a lovely combo!! I actually was able to meet up with Amy in person this past week, we got coffee in our neighborhood on the UWS and just chatted for two hours! it was so fun to have a substack friend become an in person friend. what I really like about Uncle Ronnie is that Amy also does a section called “BodyPop Questionnaire” where readers and writers can fill out and share their own commentary on body image and pop culture findings. she featured yours truly a couple of weeks ago, which was an honor to be apart of. please go check her out!movies: started off this week with a solo movie date to see twisters, I did NOT partake in a 4D experience, and I dont know if you could have paid me to do so, BUT I would gladly see the movie again. it was cheesy but cute and made me cry because tornadoes are real and SCARY. miranda and I decided to see deadpool & wolverine on saturday, we both have not seen the first two deadpool movies, but we watched a 30 min youtube video giving us a run down of EVERYTHING we would need to go going in, which was very helpful and we were never lost. we cracked up at some jokes, and didnt laugh at all during others. it was a movie for 14 year old boys but it was fun and like a good time. and then for movie church we watched in the heights. OH MY GOSH, I love this film. its so new york and summer and perfect!! and so emotional, a top tier musical movie.
music: i’ve been listening to olivia rodrigo to prep for an upcoming concert, which has been so fun, I love her and can’t wait for her performance
also one of my cutie students recommended I listen to the sundays, and the songs were so good!
in my mind: THIS TRAILER, it came out on monday or tuesday, and I got to see it in theaters on saturday, I am PUMPED
the fact that timmy, zendaya, florence pugh, AND austin butler all are coming out or came out with 2 movies this year (and both of their movies are SO STRONG) is crazy and such a testament to like the next generation of actors. this is what i’ll be thinking about for the foreseeable future
in my stomach: I can’t stop eating the dried apricots from trader joes, like WHY ARE THEY SO GOOD?!?
did anyone else watch the opening ceremony of the olympics? it was the first time that I watched them all the way through, and they were so beautiful! I loved being able to see all the team uniforms, and how certain countries included their culture in the uniforms, I want a met style exhibit of them so I can see them all. its so emotional to see every country and the countries that only have one or just a few athletes. like they are so happy to represent their country, i’m happy for them too!! I cried seeing the palestine olympians in particular!! SO HAPPY !!!!
something special about this ceremony in particular was that the ceremony was all throughout the city, when normally its all in an arena. so it was cool to see the whole city of paris throughout the night.
for those of you that don’t have access to watch the olympics you can download the olympics app and stay up to date with results and the schedule and you can look on youtube for the different performances, highly recommend looking up jordan chiles, suni lee, and the GOAT simone biles. I can’t wait to see these girls keep performing! in the mean time, I will be watching all the behind the scene tiktoks of the olympic village and the athletes fangirling over each other.
I also really enjoyed the musical performance of “imagine” by juliette armanet. so emotionally moving, especially because france is very pro-palestine. its hard to see the world come together for the olympics, yet there is no such thing as world peace, its hard for me to comprehend. I hope that the olympics can maybe bring that one day, but who knows?
tiktok: gosh I love them; I want to do this for when I leave new york
pinterest: D.W. GETS IT; my locket for real; I stand behind this
instagram: iconic as always and forever; me me me me me; the perfect use of this trend
OKAY GO WATCH THE OLYMPICS!! GET EMOTIONAL OVER THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THESE AMAZING ATHLETES. AND DONT BE AFRAID TO CRY OVER SOMETHING SILLY THIS WEEK!! love you!
Awooo! Thank you for the shoutout and loveliest words. 💗 It was so much fun hanging out with you and I'm already looking forward to more time spent on the UWS over the coming year! Also I meant to ask where you got your cute pink pants b/c they.were.fab. Btw, LOVE a solo movie date and heard such fun things about Twisters! Also - that Ibuprofen locket?! 🙌‼
