#56: what to write about...
feeling at a little loss for words, yet somehow this newsletter is still "too long for an email"
hi hi hi sisters ♡ I truly cannot believe we are over halfway done through october!! this past week has felt like fall in new york, but of course it is going to be almost 80 degrees today, so we still have our ups and downs.
continuing on for the next little bit I want to keep the recommendations section to recommendations for different substacks that I read. I find it to be really important to support small “businesses” (that sounds odd to use here, but maybe influencers is another word I can use?) and one way I can do that is by sharing about them!
please go read the substack
by . this isnt an every week newsletter, but rather a whenever the author wants to write and share newsletter, so her pieces feel like an extra present when they hit your inbox. amanda is so real and candid in her writing about being fat and getting dressed an pop culture. love this little brain dump of a newsletter!movies: this week I was able to watch a few movies, started off strong with moonrise kingdom with bjørn, its not my favorite wes anderson film, which I know is a hot take. a LOT of people LOVE this film, and dont get me wrong, I love it for the wes anderson-ness of it, but the story line isnt my favorite…. but I still enjoy it! I then ventured into a scary movie and watched the shining. I watched the shining back when i was like 12 and my sister was 8 and we watched it at our aunts house with my older cousins, idk who thought it was a good idea to do that… but I digress, its been a movie ive been kinda scared of since then, and the lady in the bathtub has been seared into my mind for the past 14 years, so I wanted to prove something to myself and watch it again. it wasnt nearly as bad. I was TENSE but also it really is such an iconic scary movie. i’m glad I watched it again. for movie church we watched the nightmare before christmas. gosh I love this weird movie so much. I have loved it ever since I was a kid and i’m kinda surprised I wasnt horrified from it because it can be quite creepy in some ways. and then to round it all off I watched from up on poppy hill, i’m slowly making my way through all the ghibli movies. this was made by hayao’s son, goro, who iconically isnt the best at making movies, HOWEVER, I really enjoyed this one. I thought it was so lovely and cozy, the animation was beautiful, and it had a good story line. I truly wouldnt have thought it was goro’s film instead of his fathers.
podcasts: i’m a week late but I listened to andrew garfield’s modern love episode he did with the NYT podcast. oh my goodness that man is so emotionally intelligent and competent, I just want to hug him.
music: feeling in a little bit of a music slump to be honest and I dont know why… what are you guys liking right now?
in my mind: I will NEVER get over them being together as castmates, their chemistry on and off the screen is impeccable. I also love when they do multiple interviews in a day because you can tell they are looney and so done. which makes for very entertaining answers.
its interesting, sometimes I have a full plan with an outline and a draft and everything for what I want to write about for this newsletter. but then there are times, like today, when I have zero clue what I want to focus on for the week. which I think is okay. its probably a reflection of my mind and what I have going on, which at this moment is a lot. i’ve been trying to get back into the swing of studying for the MPRE exam- the exam that i didnt pass by one question back in march… I have to do “adult” things like scheudle appointments for a dermatologist, gynecologist, dentist, yatta yatta yatta, and it feels like finding doctors for these specialties can be tricky with my insurance. so that has been on my to-do list for awhile. and then I have school and on top of school i’m trying to slowly apply for post-grad jobs but then I also kinda want to get an internship or something for next semester to boost up my resume. and I’ve been trying to make plans with friends I havent seen in awhile but because of my odd class schedule, I have to make plans a couple of weeks to a month in advance, and that just seems absurd.
life is busy and I dont have too much on my mind but maybe next week I will.
