hi hi hi sisters ♡ for the past two weeks i have been bouncing around california and washington state (with an overnight trip to vancouver canada) and I am TIRED and ready to get back to new york on wednesday and get back into a routine
but with getting back to new york means getting back to reality. which includes and is not limited to: starting my last semester of law school 😱, starting a new internship (which i’m quite nervous about tbh), starting bar prep, studying for the MPRE for a third time, applying to sooooo many jobs (if anyone has free time on their hands and would like to look around for a job or two for me to apply to, id love you forever), and so on and so forth… LOTS to do in reality
keeping the recommendations section to recommendations for different substacks that I read. I find it to be really important to support small “businesses” (that sounds odd to use here, but maybe influencers is another word I can use?) and one way I can do that is by sharing about them!
hehe okay a friend of mine JUST started a new substackkkkk. its called
and its a pop culture substack in which Rachel will share her passion of culture and trends and niche interests to all of us! she has worked in the advertising and strategy field and always has her finger on the pulse of culture !!! her first piece was about movies and specifically two scenes in two movies that came out this past year, I was lovingggg it, and I cannot wait for more !!! go check her out ◡̈movies: I saw a complete unknown (read below for more timmy chat) and also watched the princess bride. a truly ICONIC film all around.
books: 1) I am switching over to storygraph (as well as using good reads 🥴 - what can I say I LOVE that I can look at my highlights from my kindle read books). but I would LOVE for more friends to join storygraph so I can have friends hehe. so add me ◡̈ and 2) i have been reading the overstory by richard powers. its one of bjørn’s favorite books, and one that has changed the way he views the world profoundly, so I decided “hey i’ll give that a whirl” it took me a second to get into it, its like 500 pages and I havent read a fat book in a fat second, but i’m LOVING it. its so beautiful and has already made me cry, not because of any one particular sad thing, but for the beauty of humanity and the world around me
in my mind: this subject- the POPULARIZATION OF TIMOTHEE CHALAMET IN MAINSTREAM MEDIA
as a long time fan of timothee chalamet, okay like since 2017 when I saw lady bird, I have been WAITING for the public to get on board. people would question why he was my #1 celebrity crush, i just brushed it off knowing they would understand eventually. which don’t get me wrong, there is a niche group of girlies who joined in with little women (2019) and then ofc the people have loved his digital footprint from high school (miss lawton and statistics and lil timmy tim, etc). and with a new timothee chalamet movie in theaters coming out yearly, he has gained the attention of the masses. especially with dating kylie jenner. but i really feel like because of a complete unknown press tour, he has reached many more people and has become mega popular among all walks of folks in the past 2 months or so. of course you have the classic promo with variety, vogue, stephen colbert and other media sources, but what I think it really kicked off (no pun intended) timothee’s popularity right now was him popping in with the nfl and talking football… who the hell knows how that happened but the people were loving it !!! then icon brittany broski (fellow timmy lover) interviewed him and he was just a DOLL. between the premieres in LA, NYC, London, and random towns (to me not to bob dylan around the country) THIS interview with nardwaur came out and really sealed it all in for him. racking in 1.6 million views in under 2 weeks, this video is 51 minutes of pure timothee content, it was so enjoyable to watch. to even add more to his popularity, idk what exactly the event was for but timmy joined fellow actor and friend, saorise ronan, for a Q+A in London (I would have given up an arm to be there but alas I was taking a final exam….)
anyways you get my point, HE HAS BEEN EVERYWHERE !!!! and everyone is eating up the coverage, especially with the golden globes that happened last night and kylie jenner sitting right next to him. TOP celebrity couple these days tbh.
but the common theme in all of these?!?! timmy just got to be himself. he had the opportunity to let the people in on who he is as a person, a funny silly goofy gangly dude who grew up in nyc and is now a mega movie star but still only 29 years old. he has just finished a movie that he is really proud of, and should be, I really enjoyed a complete unknown. I thought it was really interesting and I was entertained the entire time. its a film he has worked 6 years on, and you can tell that this meant a lot to him.
anyways, welcome to the club, I wish I could have gatekept it a little longer, don’t go getting crushes on him, but admirers are welcome
WOWIE 2025 is HERE !!!! while I dont believe that you have to 1) wait until a new year (or month or week or day even) to change habits and patterns, nor do I 2) think that a new year REQUIRES goals and “ins and outs” lists or mood boards or whatever.
BUT I do love the idea of a new year and feeling like we get a chance to mark a new beginning in our lives. a brand new chapter that is blatantly obvious that its new to us.
I one time wrote an instagram post that said:
“In life we see many more physical sunsets than we ever do sunrises. And I find that parallel happens often to us in terms of endings and beginnings as well. It is easy to recognize the end of something, friendships, decades, trials; but sometimes it is harder to see the beginning of something new. It takes a lot more work and effort to see the sunrise; a lot more energy and intentional living. The beginning of a new year is one of the best ways to recognize the sunrise of a new start in life. A sunrise is just as beautiful as a sunset; here’s to the newest sunrise.”
NOW, I am not saying that I disagree with my past self; I do think that it is sometimes easier to recognize an end to something rather than a beginning. BUT I don’t think I gave earth and time enough credit as they deserve. for it is because of the world we live in that we wake up to a new day, new month, and new year, just as often as the end of a day, month, or year.
so, now that we have a new beginning in the front of our face, lets take advantage of it (in whatever way we see fit), shall we?
tiktok: demi moore’s golden globe acceptance speech; it will never be again; I bought these sweatpants and i really want them to work
pinterest: me in another life (probably); you got yourself; I love you all
instagram: past nyc new years; did you know that the confetti is handthrown?!?!; love this graphic
happy january! I hope you enjoy the photo that I used for this week’s post, it is my winter moodboard/phone screensaver and I am OBSESSED with it. I can’t wait to make a new one each season. I literally made one for kelley (my sister) as well because of how much fun I had making mine!
Ok I'm crying!!!! Thank you for sharing, angel!
