hi hi hi sisters ♡ sending so much love to the people of LA, truly cannot comprehend the devastation that I am seeing on my phone screen
I hope you are all safe and that your loved ones are okay as well !!!
keeping the recommendations section to recommendations for different substacks or substack articles that I read/found interesting. I find it to be really important to support small “businesses” (that sounds odd to use here, but maybe influencers is another word I can use?) and one way I can do that is by sharing about them!
switching to more just sharing different substack articles I have read: starting off with one about my lover.
wrote about timothee chalamet and kylie jenner’s relationship and I think this is what investigative journalism is all about folks !!!movies: this weekend I went and saw the brutalist with some friends in theaters. if you are scared of the 3.5 hour film length, dont worry. 1) there is a 15 minute intermission *chefs kiss* but 2) it honestly could have been like 30 minutes longer. each minute is used so perfectly !!! I really enjoyed the film. there was quite a bit of talk of zionism, which i was not expecting, BUT it is history and important to talk about and learn. I thought adrian brody was amazinggggg, like give him his oscar now (can’t wait for nominations to come out soon). overall, a wonderful, beautiful movie with a delicious score. for movie church we watched booksmart and DAMN I loveeee that movie. I can’t explain it, but its one of my favsssss. every single actor is perfection and I need 10 more movies with them all. tysm.

woof, 2025 has been a year already and its only day 13… I know most of us are locked in and stressed about the state of the nation thanks to our future president. but the added stress and national devastation of the fires in LA has added a special little sprinkle of dilemma to how the hell can we make this world a better place. sitting in my new york apartment with all of my belongings has me thinking “can I even help?!" BUT yes I can (and so can you!!)
for starters there is an organization in LA where you can sign up to donate clothes that you were already planning on donating and you can get matched to people in LA who have lost everything and you coordinate with them to send them your clothes. I think the process is going to take a little bit because of the demand, but its a place to start !! there are of course a lot of organizations you can donate money to (for animals, for babies/children, for the firefighters, for those evacuated). gofundme has also localized all the families who need support from these fires in one central hub. you can also buy used or new books from this LA local bookstore who’s owner lost his home in one of the fires. all purchases will help him and his family rebuild their home.
growing up in las vegas I have never really had to deal with natural disasters. theres not enough vegetation for fires to happen, we dont get tornadoes, or hurricanes, or earthquakes. its HELLA hot but thats about it (which dont get me wrong, it can be horrible if you get heat stroke and dont have access to water or AC) but I have never had to worry about something happening to me. in utah there was snow and I did endure a little earthquake, but also nothing crazy. in new york there have been a couple of tropical storms and also a small small earthquake that happened, but once again nothing CRAZY or devastating. that being said, I am moving to SF this fall and I am STRESSED about earthquakes. san francisco is very prepared for earthquakes to happen, but that doesnt make me any less stressed. i’m scared about not being with bjørn when it happens and something happening to one of us. or i’m scared of being crushed by a building or bridge or SOMETHING. theres really not much I can do to prepare because an earthquake is literally unpredictable, but it has had me thinking of what I would grab if I needed to evacuate in a quick emergency. this post on instgram was a helpful starter:
growing up in the mormon church there was a HUGE emphasis on like end of days preparation. so my family always talked about how important it would be to have cash on you, but beyond that I dont have much else prepared. sometimes I think people think of doomsday preppers are crazy people, which there are extremes, but I also think we could all do better at preparing for an emergency. like having a case of bottled water, food you can eat without cooking, etc.
while I dont think there will be a natural disaster in new york anytime soon (fingers crossed) this is important information for me to think about and how I could be better prepared for an emergency.
in addition to the world feeling like its falling apart, today is my last first day of law school (CRAZY COO COO BANANAS WILD NUTS) and I feel like I have so much to do !!! but thats okay, I have a to-do list and will get crackin
