#81: i was in it, the pit
Lana's new single, a bread recipe, and a whole lot of chat about a medical show i'm obsessed with
hi hi hi sisters ♡ I *think* we can say that spring is here? who knows with the weather going all over the place, I am ready for light cardigans though !!! the trees in bloom have me convinced that warmer weather is here though
which means I need to start switching out my clothes and packing away my winter clothes for a long time as SF doesn’t really get a winter like the rest of the country
keeping the recommendations section to recommendations for different substacks that I read. I find it to be really important to support small “businesses” (that sounds odd to use here, but maybe influencers is another word I can use?) and one way I can do that is by sharing about them!
really loved this new piece on
byin it she talks about when and why we stop liking things because of X, Y, or Z. such as something becoming too popular, something that was a trend and no longer is, or
movies: for our book to movie club we read and watched the hunger games. while the movie isn’t perfect, there are some absolute perfect casting choices that were done; like woody harrelson as haymitch, josh hutcherson as peeta, lenny kravitz (literally always forget that its him) as cinna, and elizabeth banks as effie trinket !! like yes chef you cooked with this cast. and for movie church we watched fire island, a queer retelling of pride and prejudice. this month’s theme is book and play adaptations and it was a fun light hearted and wholesome watch!
music: lana del rey came out with a new single, henry come on, and its so beautiful. her vocals are smooooooth
in my mind: I started and finished the sunrise on the reaping in like three days. it was SO good !!! I cannot wait for a movie to come out. there was so much that suzanne was telling us as readers and boy did she get her message across !! I really liked this substack article about the book. it was also quite sad, but so so so good! so now i am in a deep hunger games renaissance and rereading all the original books hehe
in my stomach: made focaccia with my friend quincey. I have used this recipe over the years and its always done a very good job for me. I have found that baking in a 9x13 dish works best for me, but if you use super fresh yeast and can get a good rise I think a cookie sheet is perfect too! but if anyone has a better focaccia recipe pls send it my way.
ALSO quincey and I made scallion pancakes with a woman who started a delicious burrito place we love- forsyth fire escape. it was so fun making the scallion pancakes and learning how to roll them up and cook them and they were delicious !!!

I started writing out my thoughts for what i’ve been consuming and it was getting long so we are going to talk about one of my new favorite shows, the pitt (hence the name of this week’s substack hehe)
bjørn and I binged the pitt this past week. its a medical show based in a hospital in pittsburgh on HBO and the premise of the show is that the whole season only takes place during a single ER shift. so each episode is an hour long segment of the shift- the first episode is 7-8 am; the second episode is 8-9 am and so on. and OH. MY. GOODNESS. we became OBSESSED with it. like staying up til 2 am watching it obsessed. there is so much that happens in each episode, the doctors are going through a never ending revolving door of patients and problems and they have to remember so much to help them all.
a lot of medical professionals have said its a pretty accurate show and they even consulted with physicians while making the show. and someone on reddit said “Im an emt in the pittsburgh area and the show is based off of the real AGH hospital which is a major level 1 teaching hospital. Both AGH and Presby (which is mentioned in the show) has a lot of doctors in the ER. When we bring a trauma to either one you will have ER attending, trauma attending, several of both ER and trauma residents, and sometimes an intern and medical students.”
as you watch the show you grow fond of the doctors and nurses (one of them is an actual ER nurse in real life) and you will be amazed at all they handle during the shift. there are quite a few characters you follow and it takes a minute to care about them (and remember their names) but once you do, oh you really care about them.
I can’t help but think about my friends who have gone through medical or nursing school and have done rotations in hospitals. or my brother-in-law who is an ICU nurse right now. I just want to give all of them a hug and say thank you because they do so much and their lives are crazy. I genuinely cannot believe that people are doctors.
I wont be able to stop thinking about this show for a long time. if you can handle medical blood I highly recommend- i’m not going to sugar coat it, there is a lot of blood and a lot of sharp scalpel that cut through skin as if its butter… BUT I was able to watch all of it even if I was clenching quite a bit as well haha. it is truly worth your time
tiktok: universal’s new theme park looks amazing; getting lots of love on the spectrum content and its so wholesome
pinterest: what a lovely thought; i’ve been target a lot of hungry caterpillar stuff and its all so cute
instagram: oop sza made me cry
I hope I convinced someone to watch the pitt or read the hunger games or make bread !!! until then, have a great week. love you all ♡
thank you muffin!!
